There is no doubt that over the years some of the best footballers to hit the pitch, have worn the number 14 shirt.
You have the late Yohan Cruyff who created some of the best moments in football history.
There is also a member of the Premier League goal club Thierry Henry who famously wore the shirt both for Arsenal and Barcelona.
So I think its safe to say, that its a legendary number,
However, when talking about football nowadays, which famous footballers currently wear the number 14 shirt?
In this post, I will take you through some of the very best wearing it, that you can still see in action today.
Table of Contents
1) Trevor Chalobah – Chelsea
Chelsea has always had a name for producing young talents, however very rarely do they get the opportunities to break into the first team.
However, for Trevoh Chalobah who is the younger brother of Nathaniel Chalobah, who also came through Chelsea’s ranks, he has been given numerous opportunities at Chelsea despite being 22.
Chalobah who wears number 15, has put in sturdy performances when given starts for Chelsea in the 2021/22 season.
Playing primarily as a center-back, he has shone in the three at the back system Tuchel plays, however, he has quite a versatility being able to play full back and defensive midfield.
Chelsea do tend to let a lot of players go, even talented ones, due to how many good players they produce.
However, with him making a great impression and showing his quality, chances are he will be an important player for the side over the coming years.
2) Juan Bernat – PSG
Juan Bernat has proved to be a great transfer for PSG, solving their issues at left-back after ex-footballer Maxwell left.
A player who is smart, quick as well as has a presence both defensively and offensively has improved as a player since moving to Bayern Munich in 2014.
When Juan Bernat moved to PSG in 2018 he chose shirt number 14, the same number he wore in Germany and also in his 11 caps for his country Spain.
3) Jordan Henderson – Liverpool
Sunderland-born midfielder Jordan Henderson has worn number 14 for Liverpool ever since joining the club in 2011.
Henderson has achieved plenty of success in his career including helping Liverpool win their first premier league title as well as a Champions League in 2019.
He was even awarded an MBE for his work with charity and donating a percentage of his wages to the NHS during 2020.
One thing is for sure, and that is Henderson is a class act on and off the field, and will likely go down as a legend of the club when he retires.
4) Ivan Perisic – Inter Milan
Ivan Persic is part of the Croatian golden generation as well as being one of their top earners in the sport.
He has been one of the best in his position for many years, being a nightmare to defend against due to having two feet as good as each other.
Now Perisic has worn a number of shirt numbers over his years, however its the number 14 that he currently wears at Inter Milan and also did during his loan spell at Bayern Munich.
Interestingly though Perisic actually started at Inter Milan with the 44 shirt, but switched to 14 after returning to the club in 2020.
It seems the player also likes the number four too, as he wears four for country and years ago 44 for Wolfsburg back in 2013.
5) Philippe Coutinho – Barcelona
Despite what some will say Philippe Coutinho is one of the most naturally gifted footballers to wear number 14.
Coutinho is someone with a low centre of gravity, being able to manipulate the ball so well as well as having the ability to shoot from a long distance.
There have been spells over the 29-year-olds career, which have shown his brilliance, which is the reason why Barcelona splashed out £142 million on him.
However it is likely the club regrets the decisions, as the problem with Coutinho has been consistency, and this has really shown over the past few years, as he has struggled with form.
6) Marcos Llorente – Atletico Madrid
Marcos Llorente controversially moved to the other side of Madrid, switching from Real Madrid choosing the number 14 shirt at Atletico.
With game time limited for the Los Blancos, it was a move that really paid off, as the young Spaniard has taken to his game to the next level.
While he also has a brother Diego Llorente is also a professional footballer, playing for Leeds it is though Marcos that everyone is talking about.
One game in particular that caused this was Atletico Madrid’s last 16 game against Liverpool in 2020.
At the time no one was talking about him, however, after coming off the bench and scoring two vital away goals at Anfield he instantly became a hit with the fans and from then has really kicked on.
7) Nico Schulz – Borussia Dortmund
High-paid left-back, Nico Schulz took the number 14 shirt at Borussia Dortmund after moving from TSG Hoffenheim for £22.
Nico who excels in both attacking and defending has also been wearing the number for Germany since being given his debut in 2018.
Before that though, he wore 16 in his two-year impressive spell at Hoffenheim, after also wearing 14 at another german club in Borussia Monchengladbach.
8. Weston McKennie – Juventus
US international Weston McKennie wears number 14 club for Juventus.
The Texas-born centre midfielder has had a huge rise to the top of football, with him only a few years ago playing for the Dallas academy.
In fact, Weston didn’t even make a single appearance for the Dallas club, before moving to Schalke.
After arguably becoming the best player in the side, attention came in from clubs all around Europe, one of which was Juventus.
Since swapping the number 2 shirt of Schalke for the number 14 in Turin, he has made 43 appearances scoring 7 goals too.
9. Tyler Adams – RB Leipzig
Tyler Adams moved to RB Leipzig after a successful year with the sister club NY Red Bulls where they won the supporters shield (the equivalent of winning the league).
Previously in New Jersey, Adams had the number 4 jersey, however wasn’t able to stick to it due to center-back Willi Orban already occupying it.
10. Casemiro
While most attention has gone to Bale, Ronaldo, and Hazard over the years in Madrid, its Casemiro and his top-class defensive performances that have helped Real Madrid dominate Europe in recent seasons.
Casemiro first joined the club in 2013, after playing his first three years of competitive football back with Sao Paulo the team he came up through the youth system.
Since moving to spain in 2013, the Brazilian has gone on to play 205 goals chipping in with 33 goals.
He has also worn a few numbers, as while Casemiro wears number 14, he has also had 38 and 16 on his back over the years.
11. Jesse Lingard
While Jesse started wearing number 35 when he first made the step to professional football at Manchester United, he later moved to number 14.
In fact, Jesse still has that shirt at Manchester United despite going on loan to West Ham during the 2020/21 season.
However while he may have a low squad number at the red devils, so far the 29-year-old has been surplus to requirements.
Not just under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who has left but under Ralf Raignack. So it does look like if the player wants to start playing regularly in his prime, he will need to seek out other clubs to reach his potential.
12. Aymeric Laporte
Changing his nation from France to Spain isn’t the only decision basque center-back Aymeric Laporte has made in his career.
Has the now Spanish international, changed from number 4 to number 14, after moving to Manchester City in 2018.
13. Dries Mertens – Napoli SSC
Dries Mertens won’t just be known for being a clinical finisher in the box but also for his dance celebration where he kept his promise against Barcelona.
The striker who has stayed loyal to a Napoli SSC being there from 2013 to 2021, has worn the number 14 shirt for a decade.
Has the Belgian switched from number 11 to 14 when joining PSV in 2011.
14. Pierre Emerick Aubameyang – Arsenal
After a £55.5 million move from Borussia Dortmund to Arsenal in 2018, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang went with the number 14 shirt, after previously having 17 in Germany.
Aubameyang has had a successful spell in North London, bagging 68 goals in 128 games since his arrival 4 years ago.
