What makes the difference between your average professional football player and your top class one is consistency.
The reason why some players win the same accolades each year is that they can deliver frequently.
Not just in one game but throughout a season.
Now while not every striker can score in every game or keep up top form all the time.
There are goalscorers who, each year without fail, will end up scoring roughly the same amount by the time the season finishes.
So if you are wondering who exactly these players are and who is always good value to bank on finding the net in a game, then this post is for you.
As today, I will go through footballers who are expected to score frequently.
Table of Contents
1) Cristiano Ronaldo
I could have started this post with either Ronaldo or Messi, as these two players are on a par with each other.
Despite them being well into their thirties, they both have one of the best goalscoring records the sport has ever seen.
Cristiano Ronaldo, however, is someone who is expected to score in most games despite being closer to 37 than 36.
While many footballers are getting ready to retire, he is still producing greatness at an age where most have either called time on their careers or are playing less.
Ronaldo, however, isn’t playing fewer games and is still active with both country and club.
He finished top goal scorer at the Euro 2020 with 5 goals in 4 games despite getting knocked out early in the second round to Belgium.
Since joining Serie A club Juventus in the summer of 2018, he has scored close to a goal a game with 81 goals in 97 appearances.
These are goal records that really shouldn’t be possible at his age and playing at the top level.
Despite that, and with him turning 37, he will be a player who the Bianconeri and its fans expect to score goals frequently over the upcoming 2021/22 season.
2) Lionel Messi
Lionel Messi, who recently shocked the world by moving to PSG on a free transfer, is someone who is always expected to score no matter the opposition.
He has an explosive pace and can create opportunities for himself and his teammates out of nowhere.
He is one of the best because he is great in high-pressure situations in the box, often finding the net.
Having a good eye for goal, the argentine is also known for scoring outside the box and inside.
The ex Catalan based player has converted over 50 free-kicks during his career up to now.
This also adds to the many long shots that have gone into the net too.
Now you can see why so much is expected of him by looking at his season stats for the past 12 seasons.
Has over this time span, he has managed to score at least 25 goals in a season.
For most of those seasons, he is hitting the thirties.
The 2011/12 season was a highlight year, where he netted a whopping 50 goals across 37 appearances.
Now in Paris, after making the swap from Barcelona, he will be expected even after recently turning 34 in July to keep up his goalscoring record for the Parisians in a league that has a reputation for not being as competitive as others like the premier league.
3) Robert Lewandowski
Robert Lewandowski has one of the most prolific scoring records of strikers in the world.
You could argue that the Polish international who recently captained his national side in the euros doesn’t get the recognition he deserves.
While he has won tons of trophies, including several golden boots and a champions league, he has yet to win a player of the year award.
This is despite scoring 34 goals in 31 games in the 2019/20 season, but with him repeating the goal per game ratio in the following 2021/21 Bundesliga season with 41 goals in just 29 games, it should put him in good contention.
Especially since the goal tally broke the record for goals scored in a single Bundesliga season set by Gerd Muller back in 71/72.
Now at 32 and about to turn 33 during the first month of the Bundesliga 2021/22, the Pol will yet again be the main man upfront for Bayern will be expected to score several goals.
He may not come close to his record, as he was scoring way over a goal a game, which is a form that is very hard to replicate two seasons in a row.
However, I am sure most Bundesliga defences will be terrified about facing up to him again. He is lethal with both feet and in the air.
4) Neymar
Neymar is a highly-rated winger and playmaker who is expected to score goals whenever he steps on the pitch for Brazil or PSG.
Being the main player that his teammates call upon, he often will produce moments of brilliance.
Neymar is a very skilful player who has tremendous pace and acceleration while also being equally good on both feet.
This, along with his natural talent, is what’s seen him succeed at every club he has been at.
Starting with Santos when he was still a teenager, he scored 107 goals in 177 games, all before turning 22.
Since then, he has played for Barcelona and PSG, in which he has scored 124 goals in 193 games over the last 8 years.
With the recent arrival of Messi, the attacking force of PSG is likely the best it has even been.
Joined by emerging talent Mbappe, there are many goals to be expected from each of them over the next two seasons.
5) Romelu Lukaku
Romelu Lukaku enjoyed a great couple of seasons in Italy for the 2020/21 campaign leading Inter Milan to their first scudetto since 2010, after recent domination from rivals Juventus.
While then-manager Conte got the team tactics spot on, many of the plaudits go to strikers Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez, who scored a combined 41 goals to help them to the title.
Lukaku was lethal during the season, finding the back of the net 24 times, finishing 5 goals behind golden boot winner Cristiano Ronaldo.
Moving to Italy from England has helped the player establish himself as one of the best strikers in the world.
He spent two seasons essentially bullying opposing teams defenders, as he was able to use his strength on several occasions to hold players before tucking away the ball into the net.
His former club Chelsea recognised all of this and have paid Inter Milan £97 million to re-attain his services with the new premier league season on the horizon after previously selling him to Everton for £30 million back in 2014.
Back in the premier league and having signed for a big price, he will be expected to challenge for the golden boot and help Chelsea win their first title since 2016.
Conclusion
There you have it; right there above, you have 5 footballers who are expected to score frequently and will most likely do so over the course of the 2021/22 season.
If you know of any players who have a good scoring record that should be on this list, let me know by leaving a comment 🙂
