Maybe your name begins with K or your simply looking for a new team to support?
Well look no further as in this post I will be bringing to you football teams beginning with the letter K, of which I will go over 20 of the best to exist right now in the game.
From the German giants who have Japanese powerhouses, there are plenty of exciting clubs to follow.
Table of Contents
1. Kaiserslautern
Where best to start than legendary German football club 1. FC Kaiserslautern is one of Germany’s oldest and most successful football clubs.
Now while there no longer in the German top division, the team, not too long ago, was a heavyweight winning the Bundesliga twice, in 1991 and 1998, and also won the DFB-Pokal twice, in 1990 and 1996.
For a team to accomplish those feats in a short-term spell, you must have some top players signed. So it’s no surprise if I told you Andreas Brehme and Miroslav Klose spearheaded this team.
Brehme was a superb full back in the 90’s reaching 86 caps for Germany while Klose is regarded as one of the best of all time, currently holding the record of most goals in World Cup history with 16.
2. Kahlsruhe
Continuing on with another German team Karlsruhe which was founded back in 1894.
Now this club has a long history, of which they have enjoyed various successes, including hitting the heights of European club football.
This short stint was in 1996 when they reached the UEFA Cup third round.
However, they bowed out to Brondby in the third round, in a year where fellow German side Schalke 04 were eventual winners.
While Kahlsruhe played numerous years in the Bundesliga, they now, unfortunately, find themselves battling it out in the German second division.
Over the years, they have had some greats play for them, which has helped them reach their previous highs.
These include legendary German Keeper Oliver Kahn, Michael Tarnat, and Mehmet Scholl.
3. Kashima Antlers
The next football team beginning with K to follow is Kashima Antlers.
This team is highly regarded in Japan and is one of their most successful clubs.
Now while there, early form throughout the current 2023 campaign has yet to be promising.
They have had a track record of picking up that J-League title, with a record eight times.
To add to these successes, they also won the AFC Champions League on two occasions back to back in 2018 and 2019.
When it comes to naming top Japanese players to feature for Kashima Antlers you have Atsuto Uchida, Mitsuo Ogasawara, and Mu Kanazaki.
4. Kilmarnock
Moving back to Europe, we have Kilmarnock FC, a Scottish football club with a long history from 1869.
Over this time, they have picked up the Scottish Cup on three occasions.
The most recent of those coming in 2014, where they defeated the odds to beat Celtic, thanks to a late Van Touhout goal in the 84th minute, the only one in the game.
Now Sky Sports analyst Kris Boyd who featured 306 times for Kilmarnock, is one of a few greats to put on their shirt along with Manuel Pascali and Allan Johnston.
5. KV Mechelen
Off to Belgium next, and we have top-flight side KV Mechelen who currently sits 13th in the Pro League.
However, it has not been all doom and gloom for the side that was founded back in 1904.
Has they collected the First Division title in 1948 and 1989, that isn’t the only silverware in their cuboid.
They also have a European Cup Winners Cup from 1988, where they defeated Ajax.
Marc Emmers, Erwin Koeman, and Piet den Boer were three great players to play for the side who also played a part in that Final win.
6. KAA Gent
Sticking with the Belgium First Division, we have KAA Gent with a history that goes back even further.
Founded in 1864, this side has won numerous league titles, most recently being the 2015 campaign.
Not only this, but they have appeared in Europe’s elite competition too.
Their latest venture was the UEFA Champions League in the 2015-16 season, where they managed to defy the odds and make the knockout round.
Players of note include Sven Kums, who remains a first-team regular now, along with Renato Neto and Kalifa Coulibaly.
7. Konyaspor
Sitting in a respectable 9th position in the Super Lig in Turkey, Konyaspor is another top football team beginning with K.
Founded in 1922, they have played among Turkey’s elite for ten years since 2022.
During this time, they have reached the third spot in the league, this coming in the 2015-16 season, where they finished 13 points behind eventual champions Besiktas.
Now despite being relatively new to Super Lig, they have been able to sign some well-known players in the game.
The likes of Samuel Eto’o are by no means a small name. You also have Riad Bajic and Volkan Findikli.
9. Kayserispor
Staying in the same country, we have Kayserispor, a football club founded in 1966 in central Turkey.
This club wasn’t always called Kayserispor; however, formally being called Kayseri Erciyesspor.
What prompted their name change was when they were promoted to the Turkish Super Lig for the first time in 2004, after two successive promotions.
Now in the league, they showed their intent to not fill the numbers with an impressive 2005/06 season where they finished 5th.
Well-versed Moroccan Nordin Amrabat, who had a spell in England with Watford, is one of a few top players to feature for the side along with Hasan Kabze and Şamil Çinaz.
8. Kidderminster Harriers
Moving to England for the first time on this list, we have Kidderminster Harriers.
You may not have heard of this team, especially if you are an EPL fan, but this side is a long serving one entering the league system in 1886.
Playing football at the Aggborough Stadium, they have spent most of their time at the national league level.
This is something to be respected since they have had financial difficulty over the last few years.
Despite this, they are holding firm, currently in a respectable 12th position in the National League North.
Some players to have featured for Kidderminster Harriers include Ex-West Brom goalkeeper Boaz Myhill, Steve Burr, and Chris McPhee.
9. Krylia Sovetov Samara
Krylia Sovetov Samara may not be one of the first Russian football clubs to come to people’s minds.
But this team has been around for years, having been introduced in 1942.
During this period, they have dipped in and out of the Russian Premier League, picking up 7 second division titles, the most recent coming in 2021.
That is not the only Russian silverware they nearly picked up that year, being defeated by Lokomotiv Moscow 3-1 in the Cup.
Some of the best players to feature for them includes Yevgeni Aldonin, Dmitri Kirichenko, and Vladimir Bystrov.
10. Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs is regarded as one of the best South African football teams since their origination in 1970.
Since their foundation, they have amassed an impressive 22 cups, 13 of which have been in the South African Premier Division.
African football players such as Siphiwe Tshabalala, who scored the famous first goal of the 2010 World Cup on home soil, along with Doctor Khumalo, Lucas Radebe, and Bernard Parker, have all featured for them.
11. KVC Westerlo
There are currently three sides in Belgium’s first division beginning with K, and the third to make this list is KVC Westerlo.
This club which is based in the city of Antwerp founded back in 1933, and while they have spent many seasons in the top division, including the current 2023 season, they have primarily been in the lower divisions.
Saying that, though, they have managed to win the Belgian 2nd league as well as qualify for the UEFA Cup on four different occasions.
Three standout players that have put on a KVC Westerlo shirt over the years include Bob Peeters, Jef Vliers, and Mohamed Sarr.
