I will take you through firstly what exactly is a playmaker.

Followed by a list of great boots that have been engineered to get the best out of players who play that role.

So if you are ready, let’s get right into it.

What Is A Playmaker?

The playmaker is a term that is frequently used to describe certain attacking midfielders, who typically play in the number 10 position.

Typically on the pitch, a team opts to have one and sometimes two midfielders who play this attacking role.

Their job is to spearhead attacks and therefore be the playmaker of the team.

It requires an offensive footballer to make things happen in games and set up chances to produce goals.

Several pros play this position and role, including Bruno Fernandes and Kevin-De Bruyne.

Who in particular have made their name for having a big involvement in their side’s goals, whether that be assisting or scoring themselves.

From my experience of playing the role, it is not easy to play because you often singled out by the opposition as a priority to mark.

Scoring goals is the name of the game, so teams will look to stop the player who is making everything tick and supplying the focal men.

So because of this, you need to possess several traits to play it:

  • You need to be able to drop a shoulder and beat a player when necessarily
  • Be able to shoot from outside the box
  • Accurate passer of the ball
  • Have tight close to body dribbling skills
  • You also need to have a good footballing brain, as knowing when to make certain decisions is quite key too.

As you can see, it does require a lot. However, don’t let that put you off because I have found it one of the most enjoyable and rewarding positions to play.

So now I am going to head into the section where I take you through some football boots that I have singled out as being great for any aspiring or current playmakers.

1) Nike Phantom GT

First, we have the Nike Phantom GT’s worn by Belgian superstar Kevin De-Bruyne.

There is a lot to like about these, from the fresh blue colourway to the actual features of the boots.

As I spoke about in the last section, being able to dribble and attack with speed closely is key.

There will be many times where you will be required to perform a dribble in-game.

Maybe to get yourself out of trouble or counter-attack with pace on your opposition.

These boots help with the feature of generative texture on the upper of the boots.

Due to the grip of this texture, it allows you to move around with the football while keeping it near.

You can also check out this guide of other Nike football boots that are a perfect fit for midfielders.

2) Adidas Predator 19+

The Adidas Predator is another football boot made for great control of the ball.

Now what I like about the Predator range of boots is that they are laceless.

Not only does this offer something different to the other main silos you have the choice of, but this is something that will actually help you with controlling the ball more consistently.

Another addition to the Predator 19’s is Controlskin, this Adidas equivalent to ACC helps players achieve a precise first touch no matter the conditions you’re playing on.

I’m sure we have all played in bad conditions where the pitch is completely saturated.

So having boots that give you that consistency and are somewhat waterproof is quite important in my eyes.

The last thing of note is that these are lightweight and are good for running in and achieving top gear.

If you are more on Adidas side than Nike, then these are worth considering.

Playmakers Who Wear The Predators:

  • Paul Pogba
  • Marco Asensio
  • Thiago
  • Luis Alberto
  • Arthur Melo

3) Nike Mercurial Superfly VII

Designed for speed, the Nike Mercurial Superfly’s are a good option for any attacking playmaker, especially those who like to beat a man with a piece of skill.

To help you achieve the best on the pitch, they have a soleplate that gives you optimum acceleration making it easier for you to break into your stride.

This, along with an internal chassis and a vaporposite upper, will offer you a comfortable but also responsive football boot that you need when creating attacks.

Playmakers Who Wear The Mercurials:

  • Bruno Fernandes
  • Hakan Calhanoglu
  • Luka Modric
  • Eden Hazard
  • Phillipe Coutinho

4) Adidas Nemeziz+

The Nemeziz are a boot made for players like Lionel Messi, who enjoy getting the ball to feet and dribbling with it.

A player like Messi is someone who likes to gravitate all over the pitch.

It may say on the lineup that he is playing on the wing, but in the end, he will drop into pockets and space before inevitable making something happen.

These boots have features that promote this style of play, with a torsion system and soleplate that gives players a free range of motion to turn in any direction with ease.

Playmakers Who Wear The Nemeziz:

  • Lionel Messi
  • Bernardo Silva
  • Houssem Aouar
  • James Rodriguez
  • Isco

5) Puma Ultra 1.2

Puma’s answer for a fast football boot that will suit a playmaker to catch opposing players off guard is the Ultra 1.2’s.

Worn by the likes of David Silva and Antoine Griezmann these are lightweight and comfortable and designed to utilize any footballer’s speed.

This is thanks to a few key details. Firstly you have one thin layer on the upper, which is Matryxevo upper, that cushions the top of your feet.

Another interesting addition that promotes speed is the spikes feature on the outsole of the boot. Similar to those you would find on running shoes, these are there to give you more traction and help you sprint off.

Playmakers Who Wear The Ultras:

  • Antoine Griezmann
  • Miguel Almiron
  • David Silva
  • Cesc Fabregas
  • Todd Cantwell
